A huge innovation in the dental industry is the development of clear aligners, like Invisalign, which offer an alternative method of teeth-straightening to those looking for something more discreet than conventional braces.
They are ideal for anyone wishing to correct misaligned teeth and enjoy a straighter smile, without having to wear visible metal braces.
How does Invisalign work?
Your Invisalign treatment consists of a sequence of transparent aligners, made from your bite impression using sophisticated 3D imaging technology. Your first set of aligners will be almost identical to the shape of your current teeth, and each following set will incrementally guide your teeth into the desired position.
Unlike traditional braces, with an Invisalign, not all teeth are moved at the same time. The alignment is carefully controlled so that your smile is gently reshaped in the most comfortable and efficient way.
Will people notice an Invisalign in my mouth?
Invisalign braces are completely transparent, making them undetectable in most situations. Many of our clients find that even in social situations or customer-facing roles, they are comfortable and confident wearing their discreet Invisalign treatment.
How often do I need to wear an Invisalign brace?
Each set of aligners need to be worn for 20 hours a day, for two weeks. We recommend that you only take your aligners out for eating, drinking and brushing your teeth.
How long does the treatment take?
The length of treatment varies for each client, depending on how much reshaping is required. Most of our clients wear aligners for 9 to 15 months, although some can complete treatment in as little as 6 months. The duration is very similar to conventional braces.
The treatment is considered complete once you have worn each set of aligners for two weeks. After this, you will need to wear a retainer intermittently to maintain the shape of your new smile; your consultant will provide you with specific details.
What is the process?
In your first appointment, we will discuss how Invisalign can improve your smile, and use dedicated software to plan the desired result. At this stage, we will take bite impressions, and send them to Invisalign to produce your bespoke series of aligners – typically between 12 and 48 unique sets.
Once we receive your aligners, we will arrange a second appointment with you where we will show you how to fit, remove and clean them until you are comfortable with the process. We will usually give you the next few sets to take home with you, and arrange a six-week follow-up appointment.
